This fine t-bird is the product of a professional restoration and has been lovingly and expertly cared for ever since. The restoration was undertaken with an eye to keeping this thunderbird as close to the way it rolled off the assembly line in 1956 as possible, with sensible modern upgrades, easily reversed to stock, for the sake of safety, reliability and performance. The car boasts outstanding curb appeal, all of the brightwork has been refinished or replated, and the car even rides on wide white tires with chromed wire wheels. With stunning mile-deep red paint this very desirable classic t-bird presents in fabulous condition throughout and runs/drives excellent. Professionally rebuilt correct 312 cubic-inch y-block v8 engine with automatic transmission. Features include; continental kit with matching spare, correct town & country radio, turned aluminum interior trim, 12-volt electrical system, edelbrock 4-bbl carb, upgraded high-capacity aluminum radiator, wing windows. This thunderbird is a very high-quality example that will be a great addition to any garage or collection and is ready to drive, show, and enjoy for years to come. Ford's thunderbird was created to act as a retort to the chevrolet corvette, but rather than becoming a rival to the european sports cars imported into the united states, ford created a completely new market segment around the thunderbird - the personal luxury car. While a performance car in its own right, the thunderbird focused more on comfort than speed. A total of 53,166 units were produced for the three model years 1955-1957, with only 16,155 made in 1956. 1956 represented the introduction of two iconic thunderbird styling features: the port window and the rear spare tire carrier. Both were the result of complaints from 1955 thunderbird owners and potential owners, who needed more storage space in the trunk and wanted better rear vision when driving - both are now historic classic styling touches in motordom. Other significant changes included; 12-volt electrical system, new thunderbird emblem design on exterior, deep-dish 3-spoke safety design steering wheel, first year for front fender vents, zippered rear window on convertible top (except early 1956 production), port windows on hard top, exhaust outlets in rear bumper ends, round heater knobs, rear spare tire carrier, vented gas cap, ford lifeguard design safety features, wing windows on front door, ridge under headlamp door.
