ENGINE CASESThese all-new die-cast engine cases feature an 4mm higher clutch shaft and a 19.5mm higher crankshaft, resulting in better mass centralization and quicker handling. In addition, it allows the implementation of a counter balance shaft. ELECTRIC STARTERThe new 250 SX-F is fitted with an electric starter as standard, which a clear advantage in the heat of battle. A new starter motor made by Mitsuba (modified for easy disassembly) and a weight-reduced starter drive guarantees more efficient and reliable starting. TRANSMISSIONThe new engine is fitted with an all-new and weight reduced, 5-speed gearbox. It features the same gear ratios as the previous model, but has wider gears that feature a special surface treatment on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears for improved reliability. One of the new and special features on the bike is an advanced "NO-DIRT" shift lever design, which prevents dirt from blocking the joint of the lever and guarantees safe shifting of the transmission. ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMThe completely reworked Keihin Engine Management System, with electronic fuel injection, features an all-new 44 mm throttle body, which provides instantaneous response and maximum performance thanks to a revolutionary injector position. The new ECU (Engine Control Unit) includes a launch control for more efficient starts with different maps according to the gear sensor selection. In addition, the rider can activate optional maps for a different power delivery via the map select switch on the handlebar. CRANKSHAFTThe new 250 SX-F's crankshaft features a stiffer design and employs a 6 mm shorter connecting rod, contributing to the compact and light engine with a snappy power delivery. A plain big end bearing features two force-fitted bearing shells run directly on the crank pin.

The large twin-air filter is mounted in a stiff cage, which at the same time holds the system in place. FRAMEThe high-tech, lightweight chrome-moly steel frame is engineered for excellent handling, precise cornering and supreme stability. In short: more comfort and less rider fatigue. Laterally attached, lightweight engine head stays contribute to a reduced vibration level. Two threaded inserts in the lower cradle tubes allow for an optional skid plate. The engineers were able to pull off all that, while making the frame two pounds lighter than that of the lightest competitor on the market. In addition, the frame is easier to maintain, easier to work on and supplies more space for the tank and other components. The bike also features an extra-light aluminum subframe, which weighs in at less than 2 pounds. FOOTPEGSSophisticated ´No Dirt´ footpegs prevent clogging of the footpeg pivot, even when digging in deep ruts. Then just mount the footpegs of the MY2017 EXC models, which are 6mm higher than the SX versions. The single-component casting process eliminates any inconsistencies and inherent weak points created by welding. It s better looking as well. HANDLEBARKTM engineers sure know how to handle handlebars. This tapered one, made of high-strength aluminum by NEKEN, is fixed in damped rubber mounts and has two different positions.
